Oscar Mira extends condolences to family of Adamir Choc

By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) Belmopan Standard bearer, Oscar Mira issued a statement today extending his deep sorrow and sadness for the family of Adamir Choc, who was so brutally slain by person or persons yet unknown.

His committee is also mourning the deaths of two other youths, Herman Valladares and Gruver Delgado, who were shot and killed in the San Martin area of Belmopan.

“Our people are now living in fear of the threat of robbery and assault on the streets and pathways of Belmopan, even in broad daylight. Our homes are being invaded by thieves and robbers, our young men are being senselessly gunned down, and our women and children are being violated and killed in cold blood. There is a palpable sense of insecurity in our nation’s capital,” the statement said.

“We have a crisis on our hands. There is growing inequality, and a lack of education and meaningful employment. There is a culture that undervalues the lives of women and girls that prevails. Equally important, there is a seriously underfunded and weak criminal justice system that give criminals impunity. Most Belizeans have lost faith in our justice system’s ability to find and prosecute those who commit these constantly increasing acts of violence,” it adds.

The committee demands to know what the plans are for restoring law, order, and citizen security in Belmopan.

September is a time of patriotism and it would serve our national interest to use all available resources to reinforce the Belmopan Police Department’s Crime Investigation and Patrol Branches, it said.

Mira also reminds government of their promise to build a modern Forensic Laboratory with trained and qualified staff.

Additionally, Mira says that the government is responsible first and foremost for the security of our citizens. They cannot continue to let our people become the victims of crimes without any justice or accountability.
