Verdes-Bandits clash set for Wednesday ahead of Independence weekend

Posted: Monday, September 16, 2019. 2:53 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Verdes FC is coming to Belmopan this week to face defending champion Belmopan Bandits on neutral territory.

On its social media page earlier the team announced its home game postponed from September 8 will be played at the FFB Stadium, across town from the Bandits’ home ground at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium, on September 18 at 8:00 p.m. Verdes’ usual home of the Norman Broaster Stadium does not have adequate lighting for a home game at night and the FFB Stadium, which does, was pressed into service. The return will be at the Isidoro Beaton in November.

The winner assumes clear supremacy in the Premier League at the end of the first round, as both teams have the same amount of points, 16, though the Bandits are ahead on goal difference.

The second round starts on Independence weekend. The games look like this: Altitude, who lost coach Renan Couoh after being demolished at Verdes on Sunday, host Placencia at Michael Ashcroft Stadium at 7:30, while Bandits take on San Pedro in Belmopan at 8. On Sunday afternoon, BDF host Verdes in the City and Wagiya face Valley Pride in Dangriga.
