By BBN Staff: National Service Day is commemorated today in Belize.
The day is set aside to honor the Father of the nation, Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price and his legacy in Belize.
Throughout the country, Belizeans engaged in community service activities to demonstrate the importance of giving back to the community and country.
In Santa Elena Town, Palma’s Lumber and Supplies and the United States Embassy in Belize engaged in a story telling activity promoting literacy and healthy living.
The books which were a donation from the US Embassy were handed over to Santa Elena Primary School.
Students were also treated to healthy snacks.
“Education empowers our Belizean children. It is crucial to the personal, social, and economic development of our country. We read a story to the students and handed over the books which were donated by the United States Embassy in Belize in promoting reading and literacy activities. The snacks were fruit cups to also promote healthy eating,” a spokesperson from Palma’s Lumber and Supplies told our newsroom.
