One dead in Caye Caulker fire

By BBN Staff:  Reports reaching our newsroom are that one person is dead after a fire that completely engulfed a structure and destroyed several buildings in Caye Caulker early this morning.

The body of the person was removed from the scene by authorities a short while ago.

According to Caye Caulker Chairlady, Seleny Pott, before the blaze could consume the entire apartment, it was extinguished by residents of the island who came together and formed a bucket brigade.

In an interview with BBN this morning, she said it is suspected that the blaze started from a fish coil in a bedroom.
As a result of this tragedy, four families are now homeless.
