By Aaron Humes: Though still optimistic, says Opposition leader John Briceno, Belizeans are weary from worrying about provision of the basics 38 years from Independence.
He adds that while this is a day to celebrate our culture and people, too many are still without proper education, health, safety and other issues.
Calling out the Government for ignoring its overtures to address crime, Briceno said he has asked his standard bearers to talk to their constituents for solutions to an “all-out war on crime,” a war he swore to win.
Briceno devoted much of his speech to stumping for the next general election, promoting solutions to education, health, job creation and eliminating corruption and providing good governance, noting that politicians cannot be trusted to govern themselves.
Briceno, who earlier responded warmly to his many well wishes following his traffic accident in August, asked Belizeans to “change the lens” and begin to pull together.
He also paid tribute to Prime Minister Dean Barrow, saying that while they often disagreed on policy, they share a deep and abiding love for their country.
