Posted: Wednesday, September 25, 2019. 9:50 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, Belize’s Special Envoy for Women and Children, Kim Simplis Barrow, attended a High-Level Commemorative Event on the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in New York City.

Belize is one of the 44 countries that have signed the Global Pledge recommitting to the CRC.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow signed the pledge on Belize’s behalf.

Belize was also represented by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Laura Longsworth and CEO of Ministry of Human Development, Judith Alpuche.

World leaders made a historic commitment to the world’s children by adopting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 30 years ago.

The convention is an international agreement on childhood – committing to make sure every child has every right.

It’s become the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history and has helped transform children’s lives around the world.
