ComPol: Officers exercised restraint in arresting teen

Posted: Monday, September 30, 2019. 6:34 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Days ago, a video of police officers trying to arrest a teen went viral on social media.

The National Committee for Families and Children (NCFC) have since issued a statement on the incident.

Today, Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, responded to that statement.

He said that the NCFC is a reputable organization for the rights of children.

However, he said while organizations such as this informs children of their rights, it should also inform them of their responsibilities.

In reflecting on the footage, Williams said that the only thing that went wrong was the duration of time spent with the teen who was resisting arrest.

According to him, officers in a hostile situation such as the one seen in the footage should, “Grab the prisoner and move away.”

Williams says that the officers exercised great restraint in the face of increased aggression and incitement from onlookers.
