By BBN Staff: The Belizean film “My Father Belize,” won two awards at the Oakland International Film Festival in California last week.
The film, written and directed by Leon Lozano and co-written by Ron Sierra, was shown on September 26 and 27 and won the Best Short Film and Audience Choice Awards.
The success of the film follows a shining review from the San Francisco Bay View newspaper which described it as “sad, beautiful, monumental, yet a lonely piece of cinematic art.”
My Father Belize is set to form a part of the upcoming 14 Belize International Film Festival in November. The film tells the story of a Belizean born man living in the US who made trips to Belize over the years. Upon his last trip to Belize to spread his father’s ashes, he finds out that he had sired a child years prior on a previous trip home and must face fatherhood with apprehensions caused by the strained relationship he had with his own father.
