Itzamna Society signs provisional co-management agreement for Elijio Panti National Park

By BBN Staff: On September 26, 2019, Cayo Central Area Representative, Rene Montero facilitated the signing of a provisional Co- Management agreement between the Forestry Department and Itzamna Society ( I.S.) for the co- Management of the Noj Kaax Meen Eligio Panti National Park.

The park is nestled within the buffer zone areas of Cristo Rey, San Antonio, and El Progresso Villages and extending to parts of the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve in the Cayo District.

The park was established by the Itzamna Society and was signed into law as a national park by the Government of Belize on 23 February 2001.

The park lies approximately 7.5 miles south of the western highway and San Ignacio, on the north-facing foothills of the Maya Mountains Massif.

 
It encompasses over 12,000 acres of protected area.
 

Itzamna Society is a community based organization with its headquarters in San Antonio, Cayo.

The society exists for the Preservation, Conservation of the Natural Resources, Cultural Patrimony and Community Development.

Itzamna Society consists of volunteer members representing the communities of San Antonio, Cristo Rey, and El Progresso 7 miles.
