Man drowns in the Belize River

By BBN Staff: A man drowned while attempting to cross the Belize River on Monday.

Walter Gomez reported to police that his friend Raul Rivelo,43, from El Salvador, was attempting to swim across the Belize River but when he was about halfway across the river, he went underwater and did not resurface.

A search was conducted by police and coast guard personnel but the body was not found.

This morning, the partially decomposed body of Rivelo was retrieved from the river in the Manatee Lookout area.

The body was transported to Belize Medical College for a post mortem examination.
