By BBN Staff: Eleven outstanding young Belizeans and 1 mentor participated in the United States Youth Ambassador Program.

The Youth Ambassadors Program was sponsored by the United States (US) Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by World Learning.

The program brings together high school students and adult mentors from countries across the Americas to promote mutual understanding, increase leadership skills, and prepare youths to make a difference in their communities.

The initiative in partnership with Georgetown University hosted Youth Ambassadors from Central America, for three weeks in the US.

The countries represented were: El Salvador, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama.

For the first two weeks, the students were separated and sent to two different universities; the University of Idaho (Idaho) and James Madison University (Virginia ).

The Ambassadors engaged in cultural experiences, visiting sites and engaged in  training from university professors, project planning and development of a social enterprise.

For the final week, the Ambassadors travelled to Washington D.C. to finish their training with representatives from Georgetown University.

They also meet with officials from the U.S. State Department who presented them with their certificates of completion.

The Youth Ambassadors Program in Belize is managed by Love Foundation Belize.
