Verdes’ big win lifts them to top of Premier League before international break

Posted: Sunday, October 6, 2019. 7:32 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Verdes 10 (TEN!), Valley Pride 1.

Don’t adjust your device – that was the final result from Norman Broaster Stadium this evening, as the Green Machine took advantage of a slip-up from Premier League leaders Belmopan Bandits on Saturday evening.

The champs threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Altitude FC at Independence, and now sit second, two points behind Verdes. While still unbeaten, they have drawn three of their last four.

In other actions, Belize Defence Force and San Pedro Pirates appear to be making moves.

The military men beat Wagiya of Dangriga 3-1, while the islanders came into Placencia to beat the home side Assassins 3-2.

Verdes have 24 points to Bandits’ 22 going into the international break. BDF sit third with 16; Altitude 15; San Pedro 13; Wagiya 9; Placencia 6 and Valley Pride 1.

The national side resumes their quest for the CONCACAF Nations’ League with a home-and-away mini-series with St. Kitts and Nevis. The first leg is on Thursday, October 10 in Belmopan; the return Sunday, October 13 in Basseterre.

The Premier League returns for its stretch run with games on the weekend of October 20.
