By Aaron Humes: The youth charged with robbery of a man four times his age has been remanded to prison after appearing in court.
22 year old Aaron Munnings is accused of robbing 90 year old Lewis Llewellyn Tillett of $2,000 as he was leaving the Basra Street office of St. John’s Credit Union on Tuesday, October 1.
Police say the robbery was captured on a surveillance camera.
Before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson, Munnings pleaded not guilty and was denied bail after formal objection. He returns to court on December 4.
Tillett had withdrawn the money from his credit union account and was riding off on bicycle toward St. Ignatius Church at the corner with Euphrates Avenue but near the intersection with Tigris Street a man on the other side of the street walked across and approached him.
A struggle began and Tillett was forced to the ground, whereupon the robber stood over him, took the money and ran off. We are told that there were other persons in the area who failed to come to Tillett’s assistance during the robbery.
