By BBN Staff: Dr. Ethel Mae Arzu is the new principal at the Belmopan Comprehensive High School.
Dr. Arzu was born in Dangriga and raised in Orange Walk Town.
Dr. Arzu holds a Bachelor of Science in Primary Education from the University of Belize, a Master’s in Education with a major in Elementary Education and a concentration in Reading K-12 and a Doctoral Degree in Education.
Dr. Arzu served as the Vice Principal of Escuela Secundaria Técnica México and In November 2013, Dr. Arzu joined the University of Belize (UB) as the Quality Assurance Officer where she worked for five years and 10 months.
Dr. Arzu developed UB’s accreditation workplan based on Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) standards and monitored compliance to the standards. She was instrumental in the development of the University of Belize Qualification Framework and on the revision and development of internal quality assurance mechanisms.
In September 2017, Dr. Arzu enrolled in the trainer of trainer’s professional development training program that was designed to create a pool of local experts who can deliver Competency Based Education Training (CBET) in Belize.
Enrollment and participation in the training resulted in her certification in CBET. Consequently, she collaborated with local, international and regional experts and used face to face and blended modalities to plan and deliver the CBET Diploma and the Certificate in Leadership and Management Program to teachers and managers of TVET institutions in Belize.
The objective of the diploma and leadership programs was to increase the capacity of TVET management and instructors in Belize to deliver quality training to students.
Dr. Arzu is a member of several professional organizations.
