Join the San Ignacio’s Cancer Walk on October 26, 2019

By BBN Staff: The San Ignacio Cancer Society is hosting its annual cancer walk on October 26, 2019.

Today, president of the society, Flora Usher issued a statement encouraging the public to participate.

Usher also explained about the t-shirt design for this year’s walk.

“ Choosing a butterfly for this year’s t-shirt design was a very personal one for me. Butterflies are a deep and powerful representation of life and many cultures associate it with our souls. Some religions see the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection and around the world people view them as a representation of change; life; hope; transformation. For me, butterflies are a symbol of endurance similar to that of our spirit’s endurance when faced with cancer,” Usher expressed.

Usher also shared some details about her own personal battle with cancer.

Usher says that in April of 2010, her eldest son was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 19.

In March of 2011 Usher lost her 44-year-old sister-in-law to ovarian cancer and cancer broke her completely.

Usher shared some words of encouragement for those battling with cancer.

“ Whatever impact cancer has had in your lives; whatever changes you made because of cancer; whichever of your personal life views changed because of cancer I trust these have given you peace and allowed you to heal. Just as a butterfly endures change and rises as a beautiful flower in the sky, our spirits learn to heal when we lose a loved one and to practice more thankfulness when a loved one wins their battle,” she stated.

The public is invited to join the on October 26, 2019 to fill the early morning sky with hundreds of strong, beautiful and courageous butterflies and continue to hold each other in ‘Faith, Strength, Hope, Courage, Peace and Love’.
