Belize shell shocked by early St. Kitts second half burst

By Aaron Humes: Living up to their nickname, the Sugar Boyz turned on the style in the second half at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium.

Not living up to theirs, the Jaguars had no bite – and few answers.

St. Kitts dangerman Omar Liburd scored from the penalty spot after a foul in the box at 48 minutes.

Then he juked past defenders for his second eight minutes later, and a third seven minutes after that, coming off to a respectful occasion.

The introduction of Deon McCauley at halftime proved no panacea, and fans turned on coach Vincenzo Annese for making what they saw as unnecessary changes to the squad.

Did we underestimate the islanders? One thing is for sure, they didn’t underestimate us, and took the game by the neck, not letting up until the merciful final whistle.

We will do it again on their turf on Sunday, but Gold Cup and Nations League A qualifying hopes have taken a substantial hit.
