By BBN Staff: This morning the country experienced mostly fair weather with some cloudy spells and a few showers. However, tropical activity in the Atlantic Ocean is beginning to affect the weather outlook for tonight and tomorrow.
Developments in the tropical weather activity has prompted the National Meteorological Service of Belize (Met Service) to issue a flood warning for people in the south and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
The Met Service said that people in those areas should be on the alert for the possibility of flooding during the next 24-48 hours, and that operators of small crafts should exercise caution for gusty winds and locally rough seas near showers and thunderstorms.
“Approaching area of low pressure will result in heavy rainfall with the possibility of flooding especially near rivers and streams in the south and over other low-lying flood-prone areas across the country. Heavy rains will increase over the south on Sunday night and spread to most areas on Monday and Monday night,” the Met Service explained.
