By BBN Staff: Belize was represented at the 5th meeting of the executive commission of Mesoamerica and the first Mesoamerica cooperation forum by Ambassador Patrick Andrews, chief executive officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, held in the Dominican Republic from October 14 to 15, Andrews underscored the relevance of south-south and triangular cooperation for integration and development of the Mesoamerican region.

Andrews shared Belize’s commitment to work jointly with member states to strengthen the private-public partnership, promotion of trade facilitation, access to education for all youths at risk, natural disaster preparedness, public health and food security among other social and economic areas aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Mesoamerica Project, formerly the Plan Puebla Panama, was created in 2008.

It is a mechanism by which 10 countries including Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia, implement regional projects to improve the livelihood of our peoples under Mesoamerica’s two pillars – social and economic.

Andrews was accompanied by Edwardo Lama, Ambassador of Belize in the Dominican Republic and Foreign Service Officer, Emil Waight.

In the first semester of 2020, Belize will assume the Presidency of the Mesoamerica Project from the Dominican Republic.
