Belize High School to host Lego League Robotics Tournament

Posted: Thursday, October 17, 2019. 10:24 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Belize High School  (BHS) will be hosting the first of its kind, the Lego League Robotics Tournament.

The tournament is designed for students ages 9-14 years old.

Instead of using materials like metal parts and complex coding, first Lego League uses lego pieces to build objects and use drag and drop coding to form a robot to then power through courses mat.

Students competed in different challenge missions for the theme.

This year’s theme is City Shapers.

BHS is hoping to attract 10 teams, with one school from each district.

Teams are made up of one mentor and up to ten students.

Schools that have registered are Belize Elementary School- Belize City, The Island Academy- San Pedro, and Garden City School-Belmopan.

All schools will work on their projects from now until January.

The national tournament will be held in January 2020.

The winner of the national competition will have the opportunity to represent Belize in Houston in April 2020.
