Bandits back in control with three weeks to playoffs

Posted: Sunday, October 20, 2019. 8:03 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: A first slip-up of the season for San Ignacio’s Verdes in controversial fashion could cost them the number-one overall seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Verdes left Ambergris Stadium on Saturday night empty-handed after a 2-1 defeat, having had two goals disallowed according to team reports.

On the mainland, Valley Pride surprised Placencia Assassins with only their second victory of the season, winning 3-2, while Bandits stopped Belize Defence Force in Belmopan, 2-0.

In the only game today, Wagiya brought down Altitude with a thud, taking a 6-0 home victory at the Carl Ramos Stadium.

Bandits move back ahead of Verdes by a point, 25-24, and are the only unbeaten team left in the league; San Pedro are tied with BDF on 16 points for third place, one ahead of Altitude and two ahead of Wagiya with 12. Placencia remain with six and Valley Pride move up to four.

The westerners’ last home match of the season is next week vs Placencia; Bandits will be away to Wagiya; Altitude has a crunch clash at home with the BDF and San Pedro host Valley Pride.
