By BBN Staff: Local media houses in Chetumal, Quintana Roo are reporting that the Guardia Nacional (Mexican military) has increased presence near the Mexican border with Belize due to an increase in narco-jet landings recently.
The military is patrolling near the banks of the Rio Hondo River since Sunday when Belizean authorities confirmed the landing of the jet in Blue Creek — an area that is located approximately 4 kilometers from La Union on the Mexican side.
The National Guard is closely monitoring the communities of La Unión, Ramonal, Sabidos and Pucté in an effort to capture those engaged in drug trafficking.
A Mexican commandant explained to the media that the suspected narco planes originate from South America and more recently, there has been an increase in clandestine landings of suspected drug aircrafts.
The commandant said that Mexican and Belizean authorities are monitoring both sides of the border to defer any illegal movements.
