By BBN Staff: Saint Martin’s Credit Union (SMCU) in San Ignacio, Cayo has donated a brand-new motorcycle to the San Ignacio Police Formation.
Raymond Tzul, the manager at SMCU explained that the Board of Directors of the credit union noticed an increase in crime activities within San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns and decided to assist the community by providing a new motorcycle to the police department.
Tzul also shared that one of the goals of the credit union is to look at ways on how they can better enhance the communities in which they operate.
“ The donation is done as part of our activities for National Credit Union Day. It was celebrated along with other credit unions worldwide and part of the activity is looking at communities where we are and seeing how we can contribute. A donation of this nature falls right with National Credit Union Day Celebrations,” Tzul stated.
Tzul further added that the credit union is looking forward to working with the police on other projects in the area.
Officer Commanding San Ignacio Police, Henry Jemott said that he is excited to receive the donation on behalf of the police department.
“ This is a joint venture with the department and Saint Martin’s Credit Union. We met some weeks ago and they said that they have credit union week coming up and they would want to do something positive to assist the community and the police department… they brought up the idea to donate a motorcycle and that was done today,” Jemott said.
The 200 Lifan motorcycle adds to the motorcycle fleet at the police station.
“We are very thankful for the donation. I will ensure that this is used to the best ability that it can be used for,” Jemott added.
Manager Tzul also extended well wishes to all credit union members by wishing them a “Happy National Credit Union Day”.
National Credit Union Day was celebrated under the theme, “Local Service, Global Reach”.
