By BBN Staff: The race for leadership of the United Democratic Party is in full swing.
With Collet’s Patrick Faber and Belmopan’s John Saldivar battling for Party Leader, the public has been waiting to see who they would chose to be their deputy running mate.
Well today Albert’s Tracy Panton applied for Deputy Leader.
She posted today that after prayerful and careful consideration, she visited the Secretary General of the United Democratic Party to advise of her decision.
She added, “I stand ready to serve the United Democratic Party and ALL Belizeans as we seek to successfully contest a 4th Term in elected office.
Panton’ application is significant in promoting women’s participation in electoral politics. If she wins the convention and UDP goes on to win the next election, she would be the country’s first female deputy prime minister.
However, if her party loses the elections, she would be in a similar position as the PUP’s Carolyn Trench Sandiford who was a Deputy Leader of the PUP some years ago.
