By BBN Staff: Southern Environmental Association (SEA) issued a report today informing that on October 18, the Belize Coast Guard detained two Honduran nationals who were caught fishing in Belizean waters.
The men were then handed over to the rangers of SEA who formally arrested the detained men.
The men were identified as Alfredo Toledo and Cristian Funez, both of Puerto Cortez, Honduras.
Toledo and Funez were charged at the magistrate court in Dangriga with charges of “Engaged in commercial fishing whilst not being the holder of a valid fisherman’s license” and “Use of a vessel for commercial fishing without a valid boat license to fish”.
It is also expected that immigration charges will be levied.
SEA and the Belize Coast Guard will continue to conduct strategic patrols to ensure the protection of Belize’s marine resources and continues to encourage fishers to abide by the Belize Fisheries Regulations.
SEA thanks the Belize Coast Guard for their continued support and assistance in ensuring the protection of Belize’s marine resources.
