Son and friend charged in Corozal murder

Posted: Wednesday, October 23, 2019. 6:45 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Belize City residents Earl Bowden, 46, and Norman Castillo, 38, were arraigned on Monday in court for the murder of Castillo’s father Paul, 66, a newspaper vendor of Fifth Street North, Corozal Town, early on Sunday morning, October 20.

Paul Castillo was found hacked to death inside his home with chop wounds from the legs to the head and face; police apprehended the men after they left the area.

From best reports as detailed by Channel 5 News, Paul and Norman Castillo and Earl Bowden were at Paul Castillo’s house and police were called around 12:33 Sunday morning reporting the sounds of what appeared to be a beating, followed by a second call relaying an apparent argument eight minutes later, and then a third around 1 a.m. saying screaming could be heard. The screaming stopped around 1:11 a.m. and two men exited separately, one with dreadlocks carrying a draw string knapsack and riding off on Paul Castillo’s bicycle and the other in polo shirt and black hat going the other way, leaving police to find Paul Castillo’s body in the ransacked house around 1:30 a.m.

The exact motive remains unknown but intimates of Castillo say someone visited him while he was at church two weeks ago and questioned him but did not stick around after the service. Thereafter, Castillo reported several instances of a white car parked in the area, which was reported to police.

Castillo and Bowden were remanded until December 23.
