By BBN Staff: Crime is down, according to a recent publication by the Belize Police Department.
January to September of 2018 saw 1040 incidents of major crime.
For this same period of 2019 there have been 951 incidents reported.
This is a decrease of about 89 incidents.
We note that there was a slight decrease in the southern region but greatest decrease was seen in the eastern region or the Belize District which had recorded 488 incidents in 2018 but now has 374 incidents up to September.
This is a decrease of 114 incidents.
In contrast, we observed that the western region and northern region of the country saw an aggregate increase in major crime with Orange Walk recording about 30 per cent increase.
