By Aaron Humes: The Under-18 boys’ national team have won Belize’s first major semi final at the Central American level.

This afternoon they held El Salvador 2-2 at Alajuela Stadium and defeated them on penalties 5-4.

The boys play the winner of the Costa Rica-Nicaragua match later this afternoon in Saturday’s final at 3 p.m.

Belize had reached the semifinals of the UNCAF Nations Cup at senior level in 2013, also in Costa Rica, but lost to Honduras in the semifinal and to El Salvador for third place but qualified to the CONCACAF Gold Cup held later that year.
