Prosecution’s closing statements in Danny Mason trial discloses more revelations

Posted: Friday, October 25, 2019. 10:07 am CST.

By BBN Staff: On Wednesday, the attorney of William Danny Mason presented his closing submissions inside the Belmopan’s Supreme Court in the murder trial for Pastor Llewellyn Lucas.

Yesterday, closing submissions were presented by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Cheryl Vidal.

A report from Plus TV Belize summarizes Vidal’s four main points to the court.

The first was to prove that the five men accused acted together to kill Pastor Lucas.

Then, Vidal gave an overview of the prosecution’s case. The 3rd point was that Pastor Lucas was brutally killed.

The prosecution then addressed the guilt of the accused men individually.

The DPP submitted footage from the surveillance cameras taken from Mason’s Intelco hill home which reveals that all five men worked together to kidnap Lucas, David Dodd and another person.

The DPP also presented text messages exchanged between Mason and Lucas that revealed that after some work at Mason’s residence, Lucas was reportedly injured.

Lucas sought to get some sort of compensation from Mason via text.

Also revealed were text messages from Lucas to a mutual friend, Jesus Castillo asking him to speak to Mason to give him (Lucas) some money.

“ See if you can talk to Danny to help me with something. Its four weeks since I’ve gotten any money from him,” Lucas says to Castillo.

After Mason is informed of this, he sent a message to Lucas saying, “Since the last time I heard from you I haven’t seen you again. The complaint that you hurt your knee on my hill… You disrespect me in many ways.”

The thread of messages continued with more tensions between Mason and Lucas with Mason commenting to Castillo, “digging himself a deeper hole” allegedly speaking about Lucas.

Lucas continues, “You owe me. Don’t worry I’ll go through the labor department to collect. You think Saldivar and Cas will be able to help you?”

In the threats, Mason reportedly responds, “If I were you I would stop now. You made me lose three good friends”.

The men then finally arranged for Lucas to meet Mason at his Intelco Hill home to arrange payment on July 15, 2016.

Lucas responded to Mason’s invitation in a text and says, “ I will be there”.

That same night, the decapitated head of Pastor Lucas was found in the pan of Mason’s pickup truck at Sanchos bar.

The startling revelations also include text messages Mason sent to his wife during the time that police wanted to search his vehicle.

Mason texts her stating,  “You were at the nail Salon. You dropped us of to have drinks and went to get nails done. You were supposed to pick us up but you went back home.”

His wife replied saying, “Back in sync”.

DPP vidal then closed her submissions explaining the reason that the prosecution believes that the five men accused are guilty.
