By BBN Staff: In August, the Ministry of Education (MOE)informed all teachers nationwide that there is a grace period given to teachers to renew their teaching licenses.
A memo issued indicated that December 1, 2019 was the new deadline for submission of contracts and licenses for teachers whose full license was issued on or before December 31, 2014.
Later in August, the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) informed its membership and all teachers that they were required to renew their teaching licenses.
At the time, BNTU met with MOE and said that it raised several issues regarding the processes for license renewal and the ministry agreed that those concerns would be addressed.
But,an email was leaked to BBN today whereby the General Manager for Government schools urges for all teachers to submit their renewed licenses by October 31, 2019.
“Teachers must submit their renewed full license so a contract can be prepared for them. Failure to do so will result in possible stop payment of salary in the month of December,” the email states.
The teachers say that they will bring the matter to the BNTU for a resolution since December 1, 2019 was the agreed deadline.
