By BBN Staff: The San Ignacio Cancer Society hosted its annual cancer walk fundraiser this morning.
The society received overwhelming support from the Cayo community and residents Matthew Preston and Celine Neal went bald as part of their unique GoFundme fundraiser.
Their aim is to raise $3,000 US which will be donated to the Belize Cancer Society ( San Ignacio Branch) to assist patients with their cancer treatments.
Included in the fundraiser was the selling of t-shirts, also to raise funds to assist cancer patients.
Prior to the walk, branch president, Flora Usher explained why the butterfly was chosen for this year’s t shirt design.
“Choosing a butterfly for this year’s t-shirt design was a very personal one for me. Butterflies are a deep and powerful representation of life and many cultures associate it with our souls. Some religions see the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection and around the world people view them as a representation of change; life; hope; transformation. For me, butterflies are a symbol of endurance similar to that of our spirit’s endurance when faced with cancer,” Usher expressed.
The walk culminated at the Macal River Park.
