By BBN Staff: The United States Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere affairs, Julie Chung is in Belize.
On Sunday, Chung met with Belizean alumni from several State Department exchanges, including International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative – YLAI, The Hubert H Humphrey Fellowship Program, Youth Ambassadors, and Acelerador WEAmericas.
Chung also met with Japanese Ambassador Hiroyuki Kubota in Belize.
“We welcome Japan’s decision to open their Embassy in Belize. We look forward to working with our Japanese friends to promote trade, democracy, and transparency in Belize,” a statement from the Embassy said.
This morning, Chung met with the United States Embassy in Belize.
Chung congratulated the Embassy staff on their efforts to strengthen the relationship between the United States and Belize and to assist American citizens in emergencies, at times under difficult circumstances.
When it comes to facing challenges, Chung quoted a Belizean saying, “Plantain nu eat like rice – make do with what is available to you.”
