Saint Ignatius High School makes appeal to environmental organizations to assist with collapsed fence due to erosion

Posted: Wednesday, October 30, 2019. 3:16 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Saint Ignatius High School in Santa Elena, Cayo is appealing to environmental organizations in the country for assistance with their school’s fence which has collapsed due to land erosion.

The school has taken precautions by placing crime scene tapes near the area where the fenced collapsed.

Principal Jeneane Neal told BBN that it is a grave concern since the area behind the school campus was flooded and as a result of the rain, a section of the fence collapsed.

“The school is very close to the Macal River and we are basically on top of a hill. Our concern is that there are our students who tend to want to peep so we have placed caution tape there. So that we do not run into problems in terms of having them fall. We cannot do anything when it comes to mother nature. It is a environmental issue…. We are reaching out to the public for support in terms of having someone, anybody from an environmental perspective, environmental engineer to see if they can assist us to estimate the damage done with regards to the erosion of the section of the campus,” Neal stated.

Anyone wishing to assist the school can contact them at 610-5806, 607-9890 or 824-3294.

Saint Ignatius High School was founded in 2001 and currently has 390 high school students and 95 enrolled in the adult education program.
