By BBN Staff: The annual solidarity mass acknowledging the unity of all Garinagu in Belize and the diaspora was held this morning in Belmopan.
The mass, which is rotated and held in a different municipality each year, is an important part of the launching of Garifuna Settlement day festivities in Belize.
Father Calistro Cayetano celebrated the mass in the Garifuna language and his brother, Lay Minister Sebastian Cayetano translated.
Vibrant drumming and singing in the Garifuna language was led by the Garifuna choir from Belize City and Tanigu Beata Lambey Choir from Belmopan.
All branches of the National Garifuna Council were represented at the service which began at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Belmopan.
The mass was held under the auspices of the National Garifuna Council and celebrated under the theme for this year: “Lererun Garifuna lagùchabei labagaridun Garifunadúaü. Garifuna Language is the foundation of Garifuna survival.”
