“Sedi” still undecided on his candidate for leader of UDP

Posted: Saturday, November 2, 2019. 9:18 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Wilfred Elrington, a senior member of the United Democratic Party (UDP), said this week that he still has not decided on which of the two candidates vying for leadership (John Saldivar and Patrick Faber) he will support.

Elrington said that he will eventually give his support to one of them, but has serious concerns that he feels the candidates need to address before he can make his decision.

“As I look around I see almost every other ethnic group in the world who come to Belize, seem to be doing exceedingly well and our people, seemingly more marginalized,” Elrington said. “What are you going to do to ensure that this is not the case down the road?”

Elrington said his other concerns include plans for Belizeans returning to the country as deportees, plans to address school youths, plans to address school dropout rates, and relieving the burden of school fees on parents.

“Those are some of the thoughts the candidates need to address before I finally make up my mind,” he said.

He noted that as the race for leadership continues, he has seen a very cordial relationship between the two candidates and he hopes that will continue right through to the next General Elections.
