San Pedro Pirates, Altitude FC and Wagiya battle for final 2 playoff spots – race down to the final week

Posted: Sunday, November 3, 2019. 8:50 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: After this weekend, only the top two in the Premier League of Belize are assured of a playoff spot.

Verdes is number one and Belmopan Bandits will be number two, with San Pedro the closest challenger. Verdes beat Bandits 4-1 away to secure the top spot and will close the season visiting Altitude in Independence. Bandits also play away to already-eliminated Valley Pride in Dangriga.

San Pedro Pirates defeated Belize Defence Force 3-1 at the MCC and need one more point against Wagiya, who beat Placencia Assassins 4-1 in Placencia, next week at home. Both teams are in form, winning three straight each, and are not likely to give ground to each other as Wagiya needs a win to lock up a playoff spot and hope other results go their way.

Altitude beat Valley Pride 4-2 away and hosts Verdes next week knowing at least a point confirms them in the playoffs.

Verdes now lead with 30 points; Bandits are next on 25; San Pedro is third with 22, followed by Altitude with 21; Wagiya has 18; BDF remains on 16, Placencia six and Valley Pride four.
