Belize Water Services issues update on water interruption for Benque and Twin Towns

Posted: Monday, November 4, 2019. 7:18 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Earlier today, Belize Water Services (BwS) informed residents of an emergency water interruption affecting Benque Viejo, San Ignacio, and Santa Elena Towns.

A few minutes ago, BWS issued an update on the water interruption in the towns.

The water interruption has been extended for :

• Benque Viejo: water will be restored, for most customers, in Benque Viejo by 10:00pm today. Customers in the higher elevation may experience no water or low water pressure.

• San Ignacio/Santa Elena: unfortunately, the water source for San Ignacio/Santa Elena has been adversely affected by the flood and no water can be pumped into the system until the flood water subside.

BWS says that it continues to monitor and is hopeful that restoration work can start sometime tomorrow, Tuesday, November 5, 2019.

Furthermore, BWS forewarns the public that due to the flooding, it is recommended to treat the water by boiling before drinking or consuming in any way.

BWS apologizes for any inconvenience this extended interruption is causing to customers in the affected areas.
