Posted: Monday, November 11, 2019. 5:03 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The son of Samuel Haynes, author of Belize’s national anthem, is in Belize.

This is Ronald Haynes’ first visit to Belize.

Today, Haynes visited the Belize National Heritage Library and read his father’s testimony of the 1919 riot.

Samuel was a Belizean social activist who joined the United Negro Improvement Association.

Haynes also formed the Freedom Committee after being notified of the Webster proposals.

Samuel is recognized for having written the words of the poem “Oh Land of the Gods”.

Those iconic words have since been rooted in Belize’s National Anthem.
