Belize Coast Guard to see change of command

Posted: Tuesday, November 12, 2019. 2:57 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Belize Coast Guard Service is to have a change in command at the end of the month.

On the occasion of its 14th anniversary, longtime Commandant Rear Admiral John Borland will hand over the reins to deputy and Captain Elton Bennett.

We understand that Admiral Borland is to move on to an advisory post within the Ministry of National Security.

Both men have had distinguished careers in military service and under their leadership, the youngest of Belize’s armed forces has become its fastest-growing and most disciplined, with assistance from the United States and other nations.

The Coast Guard presently operates bases from North Ambergris Caye to Sarstoon River and has plans to expand even more.
