The Jaguars’ dream is alive after a 2 nil victory over French Guiana

Posted: Thursday, November 14, 2019. 7:51 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: After the heartbreak of Grenada and the humiliation of St. Kitts and Nevis, this was the one the Jaguars had to have.

And with a tactical switch and the “fighting spirit” preached by coach Vincenzo Annese, the Jaguars got it in an error-free, if not stylish, shutout.

After the Jaguars pounced early with a goal from Ean Lewis which lasted up to the half, French Guiana pressured Belize’s 4-5-1 middle with their 4-4-2 wing overlap from right to left. However, they often found themselves offside or shooting right at Woodrow West.

And when Deon McCauley fired in from close range after good work in the box to score the Jaguar’s second goal, Belize was able to relax and closed the visitors out with a 2 nil final score.

Coach Annese said he expected a tough match and was proud of his players’ performance. But it must be more of the same against group winners Grenada, to secure second place and a chance for further qualification to the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2021.
