Corozal receives new fire truck

By BBN Staff: Minister of Transport and National Emergency Management (with responsibility for the National Fire Service), Edmond Castro, yesterday officially received and handed over a newly acquired fire truck for the Corozal district.

The truck was donated by the Calgary Fire Fighters’ Association through the Calgary Fire Department in Alberta, Canada. 

Receiving the fire truck on behalf of the National Fire Service was National Fire Chief, Colin Gillett and Corozal Officer in Charge, Kevin Williams.

Ruth Meighan,  Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Transport and National Emergency Management, was present at the handing over ceremony.

Representing the donors of the fire truck was Karen Wilkenson, who acted as a liaison between the Calgary Fire Department, the Fire Fighters’ Association and the Belize National Fire Service.

President of the Calgary Fire Fighters’ Association, Mike Henson and his wife were in Belize when the truck arrived over a month ago and had met with Fire Chief Colin Gillett.

The newly acquired fire truck is a 2000 model E-One/Superior Cyclone II-L pumper truck, with a Hale QMAX 1500 GPM Side-Mount Pump, a 750 Gallon Polypropylene Tank, and a 50 Gallon Foam Cell.

The truck has seating to accommodate up to seven firefighters.
