Ministry of National Security: Proposal for amendments to firearm act under review

Posted: Friday, November 15, 2019. 10:09 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Gun Dealers Association of Belize issued a statement yesterday informing that there will be several changes to the fees for gun licenses among others.

The Ministry of National Security has issued a clarification noting that there has been a proposal for some amendments to the Firearms Act, including a proposal to limit the number of bullets that can be purchased by a licensed holder.

However, the proposal is still under review.

The Ministry says that together with the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, it will seek ways to improve the accountability of license holders as well as gun dealers.

The Ministry invites comments and recommendations to be directed to the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of National Security Colonel (Ret’d) George Lovell via e-mail [email protected] or phone number 822-2817.
