The dream is over – Jaguars slip to 3-2 defeat

Posted: Sunday, November 17, 2019. 8:03 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Jaguars fought bravely, but slipped to a 3-2 defeat to Grenada, destiny slipping out of their hands.

After an early Jamal Charles goal for Grenada, Ian Gaynair tied the game with a header before the end of the first half.

At the 55th minute, Michael Salazar pulled Belize ahead from open play, but in the space of nine minutes, Jamal Ray Charles scored twice to lift Grenada ahead for good and put a hat trick to his record.

Belize finishes third behind French Guiana after a troubled campaign which started with a forfeit in Cayenne in bizarre circumstances, followed by two humbling home defeats.

And while key away and home wins followed, Grenada showed tonight why they were ultimately the class of Group A.

Belize now prepares for next year’s World Cup qualifiers starting in September.
