By BBN Staff: On Saturday the annual Battle of the Drums was held in Punta Gorda, Toledo.
After all the soulful and powerful performances, Ecumenical Junior College (EJC) was ranked first.
With this year’s win, EJC have won twice in a row.
In second place was Lirahunu Beidi which translates to Children of Seine Bight.
And finally in third place was a Belize City group, Heretimatiwa Uwara which translates to ‘We are stronger together.’
This Belize City team is an offshoot of the Wesley College team that has participated in the high school Battle of the Drums for the last five years.
Belize City Councilor, Michael “Chippy” Norales who has been the Master of Ceremony since the inception of this event, told us he has seen a lot of progress.
He said “…the competition has evolved and the young people are taking it over.”
“It was a very exciting and hotly contested event, ” he added.
The organizers of this annual cultural event include: The Battle of the Drums Secretariat, Darius Avila, Luke Palacio, Anthony Fuentes, Gemma Palacio, Joan Avila, Carmen Lopez, Ugundani Avila, Mario Martinez, Erica Jang, Andrew Castillo, Naomi Flores, Glen Enriquez, and Michael Norales.
