Posted: Monday, November 18, 2019. 7:24 pm CST.

By BBN Staff:  On November 15 and 16, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation hosted European press in efforts to promote the community-tourism trail called Holpatin, being developed by the Ministry in the Orange Walk District.

The team, which included journalists from Agencia EFE, Nattule, and Periodista Digital are visiting all five countries of the Mundo Maya region as part of a tour organized by the Mundo Maya Organization to promote the community projects that were part of the Regional Maya Community-based tourism program.

They visited Lamanai, the U Chan Muul Yaax Ka’ax Museum in San Lazaro, and Susano Blanco’s medicinal trail in August Pine Ridge.

Throughout their stay, the group learned about the history of the Maya Mestizo, observed wildlife along the New River, visited one of the most impressive Mayan sites in Belize, savored typical Maya and Mestizo dishes of Northern Belize, and purchased local handicrafts from a renowned artisan.

The journalists will continue their travels across the Mundo Maya region for the next few weeks.

The Holpatin Trail is one of five trails currently being developed throughout the country in efforts to diversify the tourism offer and enhance the visitor experience.
