Around the globe, today is being celebrated as World Children’s Day.

Increasingly, children are demonstrating their strength and leadership in advocating for a more sustainable world for all.

The United Nations (UN) says that as the world observes World Children’s day, we are urged to recommit to putting children first – “For every child, every right”.

November 20 is observed as the day to honor and build on the strengths of children and to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.

On November 20, 1959, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses, and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves,  can play an important part in making World Children’s Day relevant for their societies, communities, and nations.

In earmarking this historic day, Belize is hosting its first-ever National Children’s parliament at the National Assembly in Belize.
