Dengue eradication measures continue says Ministry of Health

Posted: Monday, November 25, 2019. 8:06 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: As the dengue outbreak continues to be a threat to Belizeans countrywide, the Ministry of Health says that the increased measures which were implemented earlier this year to combat the disease, are still ongoing.

Director of Health services Dr, Marvin Manzanero spoke to our newsroom this evening and explained that efforts to raise awareness about the risk factors are running in tandem with clean-up campaigns and routine spraying to destroy mosquito breeding sites. He noted that these efforts are ongoing while the Ministry is trying to manage other health issues countrywide, adding that the Ministry recently issued a call for people to get flu shots in preparation for the upcoming flu season.

We also spoke with the Epidemiology Unit of the MOH earlier today and were informed that the report detailing the latest statistics for dengue is near completion. Breaking Belize News (BBN) will be following up with the Ministry when those statistics become available.
