Ministry of Education hosting a meeting with parents to discuss Pine Street preschool situation

Posted: Tuesday, November 26, 2019. 5:14 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Education (MOE), today, issued a call for parents and guardians to attend an emergency meeting tomorrow to discuss the future of Pine Street Community Pre School.

The meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Gateway Youth Center. The Ministry’s announcement came after police officers had to be
called in to keep the peace while four teachers from the school, who were assigned by the ministry, removed their belongings from the premises.

The events unfolded due to a dispute the MOE and the owners of the property. The owners, who are the former principal and former teachers of the school, say that they were not formally notified by the ministry but told by a representative in August that their license to operate the school would not be renewed. For the sake of offering the service to the community and other parents who send their children to the school, it was allowed to continue operations with the teachers assigned by the MOE, however, an issue has arisen with respect to salaries.

The owners are currently exploring their legal options. We will have more on this story as it develops.
