By BBN Staff: This morning a new Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard was sworn in at the 14th-anniversary recruit intake number 10 graduation ceremony.
The ceremony was held at the Belize Coast Guard Headquarters at mile 4.5 on the George Price Highway, Belize City.
Longtime commandant, Rear Admiral John Borland handed over the reins to deputy and Captain Elton Bennett.
We understand that Admiral Borland is to move on to an advisory post within the Ministry of National Security.
Both men have had distinguished careers in military service and under their leadership the youngest of Belize’s armed forces have become its fastest-growing and most disciplined, with assistance from the United States and other nations.
The Coast Guard presently operates bases from North Ambergris Caye to Sarstoon River and has plans to expand even more.
