By BBN Staff: A terrible road traffic accident yesterday evening claimed the lives of several Belizeans and tourists.
Through the despair and shock, the scene was plastered over social media with some using their discretion and some sharing photos and videos of the victims’ tragic death.
Belizeans all over social media have extended their sympathies to the grieving families that lost their loved ones and friends in the accident.
Mayra Alcoser, a Scotiabank employee, Lourdes Wade, an employee of the Social Security Board and Former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Eduardo Wade lost their lives when a red SUV and a tour van collided near Mile 17 on the George Price Highway. Police are yet to issue an official report with the names of the other victims.
The Social Security Board Union (SSB Union) grieves the loss of one of their own.
“Her professional, courteous and friendly demeanour will be missed by all who knew her. We also send our sympathies to her children, family and friends,” the SSB union said.
Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams issued a statement extending his condolences. “Mr. Wade was a very disciplined and knowledgeable police officer. During his tenure of service, I relied on him for advice and guidance in addressing many complex issues. It truly sadden my heart to know that you are gone Sir. The police family will surely miss you. Rest in peace brother”.
Minister of National Security, John Saldivar has also expressed his sadness for the tragic loss of lives.
