By BBN Staff: Police have served Henry Gillett, 38, with a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) following a road traffic accident in the Orange Walk district yesterday that claimed the life of a tourist.
Gillett, a taxi driver who is being treated at the Northern Regional Hospital (NRH) for injuries he sustained during the accident, reportedly had a tire blow out while traveling between miles 41 and 42 on the Philip Goldson Highway after 3 p.m. Reports are that his van flipped several times injuring the occupants and causing the death of Carolyn Moxley Gillis, 77, who was visitng from the US along with her family.
Also injured in the crash were John Gills Sr., 79; John Gillis Jr.; Lynette Gillis, 43; Mary Gillis, 10; Caroline Gillis, 10, and Rylan Gillis, 13.
They were all treated for their injuries at the NRH. Gillett remains at the hospital under observation.
